GPU pipeline compiles Fibonacci anyon CNOT-class gates with leakage near 10^-10
Researchers at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology report a GPU-based computational pipeline that compiles braids representing two-qubit gates built from Fibonacci anyons, using a meet-in-the-middle search. At braid length 69, the authors found a braid with both leakage and CNOT error of roughly 10^-10, down from earlier results of around 10^-3, according to the article. The search covered braid lengths up to 72, and the authors also report that leakage values are whole-number multiples of a quantity related to the golden ratio. Exhaustive search outperformed random sampling in their tests, but computational demands grow quickly as braids get longer. The work appears on arXiv by Matvei Fedin and Andrey Morozov and is a preprint that has not yet been peer reviewed; the article also names ITMO University as a collaborator.
