STMicroelectronics to launch STM32G5 microcontroller with post-quantum crypto support
STMicroelectronics plans to launch the STM32G5 microcontroller on November 3, 2026. The company says the device targets SESIP Level 3 and PSA Level 3 certifications and pairs a Cortex-M33 core and TrustZone with a hardware crypto core for NIST-approved post-quantum algorithms. It will initially support LMS, ML-KEM, ML-DSA and SLH-DSA. ST says keys are protected by hardware key wrapping and Secure Crypto Engines, which removes the need for a separate secure element in the bill of materials.
Why it mattersRegulators including the European Commission and NIST are moving to require quantum-resistant algorithms in computer systems, and ST says the industry expects quantum computers to eventually be able to compromise classic asymmetric cryptography. Hardware support in a microcontroller is aimed at helping developers meet those requirements, according to the company.
